Autism
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition impacting approximately 1 in every 150 Australians. It is typically identified through symptoms affecting communication, social interaction, and behaviour. Individuals with ASD are considered on a spectrum that ranges from low-functioning autism to high-functioning autism (also known as Asperger’s syndrome).
Autism assessment involves a comprehensive evaluation conducted by a multidisciplinary team, typically including psychologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, speech therapists, and other specialists. Besides behavioural observations and use standardized tests to measure specific aspects related to autism, such as language development, cognitive abilities, adaptive functioning, and sensory processing, I work closely with other professionals, such as paediatricians, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists to ensure that all aspects of the assessment are considered, providing a holistic understanding that supports an accurate diagnosis.

Autism Sessions for Adults & Children
Autism sessions for both adults and children are tailored to address their unique needs and challenges associated with ASD. For adults, sessions often focus on developing strategies to manage daily life, improve social skills, and enhance communication abilities. It may also address issues related to employment, relationships, and self-esteem, helping individuals navigate these areas more effectively.
In children, autism sessions aim to support social and emotional development, improve communication skills, and address behavioural challenges. I use structured interventions and techniques tailored to the child’s developmental level and individual strengths. This may include behavioural therapy, social skills training, and sensory integration techniques to help children manage sensory sensitivities.
Both adults and children benefit from the session that promotes self-awareness, builds coping strategies, and fosters independence. I work closely with families to provide support and education, helping them understand and respond to the unique needs of individuals with ASD. By creating a supportive environment and offering practical strategies, autism sessions aim to improve overall well-being and quality of life for individuals with autism and their families.
