Autism
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition impacting approximately 1 in every 150 Australians. It is typically identified through symptoms affecting communication, social interaction, and behaviour. Individuals with ASD are considered on a spectrum that ranges from low-functioning autism to high-functioning autism (also known as Asperger’s syndrome).
Autism assessment involves a comprehensive evaluation conducted by a multidisciplinary team, typically including psychologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, speech therapists, and other specialists. Besides behavioural observations and use standardized tests to measure specific aspects related to autism, such as language development, cognitive abilities, adaptive functioning, and sensory processing, we work closely with other professionals, such as pediatricians, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists to ensure that all aspects of the assessment are considered, providing a holistic understanding that supports an accurate diagnosis.
